Abstract:
The important roles of globalization and product innovation in firm performance have long been recognized in the literature. Building on these two main research streams, this study proposes and tests a series of hypotheses pertaining to the performance and process implications of developing new products for global markets. The results of an empirical study indicated that developing new products for global markets is positively related to different dimensions of new product performance. They further suggested that compared to developing new products for local markets, developing new products for global markets requires relatively different organizational structures, new product development processes, activities, and timeframes.
