Title: The Effect of Attractive Women Images on Social Behavior
Time: 10:30am -12:00pm, December 24, 2010
Location: Room 217, Guanghua New Building, Peking University
Abstract
Exposure to sexually appealing pictures can decrease men’s relative concern for others. Specifically, when men were exposed to pictures of attractive women, compared to when they were shown images of landscapes or average-looking women, they cared less about the welfare of a stranger, evaluated the advertisement or product less favorably when it emphasized benefits to others than when it emphasized benefits to themselves. Furthermore, it decreased men’s willingness to help when they believed helping behavior to be altruistic.
