摘要:
We consider the appointment scheduling problem by assuming only limited distributional information of the service durations such as mean and variance, or mean and support. For a given sequence of appointments, the goal of the appointment scheduling problem is to determine the planned starting times and to minimize the worst expected waiting and overtime costs among all distributions with the given distributional information. We show that the mean-variance scheduling model can be formulated as a second-order conic program. This formulation has interesting implications to the optimality of the smallest-variance-first sequencing rule. We obtain similar results for the mean-support model.
